Can OTs and PTs Document a PMD Face-to-Face Evaluation?
Date Published: May 14 2014
An occupational therapist (OT) or a physical therapist (PT) can document a face-to-face evaluation for rehab power wheelchairs, and the practitioner must concur and sign.
An OT/PT with a valid NPI number is able to register and use DMEevalumate.com's algorithmic program for power wheelchairs. When an OT/PT evaluates the patient, a physician (MD or DO) must also document the occurance of a face-to-face encounter by signing/co-signing and dating the pertinent portion of the medical record. Refer to MLN 8304 for specific information regarding MD or DO documentation requirements for the occurance of a face-to-face encounter.
